It’s the end of Summer here in New York, the warmer weather is giving way to wet days of rain and wind.
We had a great time checking out conventions, and our move to a new neighborhood. The creative gears have been spinning up again with memoir progress, open mics, and a panoply of content creation on YouTube and Twitch. I’ve also been researching what it takes to run a business as a creative entrepreneur and it’s been a fascinating art and science to develop proficiency in.
Every creator has to ask themselves an interesting question, “What does my creation have to offer that others don’t already offer?”
Will I beat people at their own game? Will I offer a proficiency in my craft? Is it simply because it’s my unique voice?
And how do you stay in the game (pardon the expression) long enough to hopefully develop a unique and polished creative voice that’s going to be something worth seeing?
And how are you going to promote it to the right people who are going to love it when they see it?
There’s a line from Elizabeth Gilbert’s Big Magic that I’m struggling to find thumbing through my copy on my shelf now that goes, “You don’t have to treat your work as being so important. Your work is simply jewelry for the mind. Nothing more, nothing less.”
And there was another line that I don’t remember where it came from that goes something like
“To make sure your work is good, you have to take it seriously. But to make sure you stay sane, you have to not take it seriously at all.”

Gamers on reddit discussing the structure of the Neopets Market Economy, a pseudo planned economy filled with only luxury goods (no necessities) with prices determined by Supply and Demand (TNT is “The Neopets Team”)
I recently took a crash course in philosophy and one of the questions (from the millions it seems) is, what is a game? How would you define it? What makes it up? I love the inquisitive questions and quotes by Elizabeth Gilbert which help clear up (cool convention by the way :)
